Cosplay...What the cock?

So, I'm a kind of gamer. I play video games, I enjoy them, and to be honest, I even get a little bit geeky about them, getting all excited about the storyline of the latest Gears of War game, figuring out a beautiful winning tactic for complete dominance in Command and Conquer or how to screenwatch discretely whilst playing split screen deathmatches on Halo. There are the odd few games I actually get genuinely enthused about getting the chance to play them, such as Skyrim, Dead Island and Farmville. However, I will never, EVER understand the whole business of Cosplay.
Cosplay is a popular hobby of teen-aged girls in Japan, and is also prominent amongst anime fans worldwide. Sometimes, cosplays can be very good; with a well-crafted, well-fitting costume that looks like its original reference. Such cosplays often require hours of hard work, and considerable seing talent.
Other times, cosplays can be horrendous; especially when fat, balding, middle-aged men decide to cosplay as Sailor Moon, or when a costume really doesn't fit the wearer.

Now, I'm not about to launch into a tirade against those who do cosplay, if it's their thing, then that's fine, I have no problem with that, it's just like being straight, gay, bisexual or omnisexual, it's not something which offends me or bothers, however, I must say, I find it strange. No stranger than going out dressed up on Halo-ween, or for a Sonic and Tails themed night out, but strange none the less.
Apparently some people get a sexual kick out of it, but again, if that's their thing, then whatever, good on them. But the sheer length and breadth of which character's people are happy to dress up as is staggering. Take Starcraft. For those who don't know, Starcraft is a RTS (Real Time Strategy) game which is massive online, with leagues, video streams and it being Korea's national sport...apparently. In it, you control vast armies in a God  like fashion, sending your marines, zerglings and such to their miserable deaths as you run out of Vespine gas. So, a game which by all rights, people shouldn't have much of a reason to cosplay as characters from it. How wrong I was.

The Ugly

Kill it....KILL IT WITH MASS SIEGE TANKS

Turns out, if there is a game of it, people will dress as it.

Search and see for yourselves. Cosplay, I may not understand peoples reasons for doing it, but I understand why they look at it.
